Red Sandalwood 108 Prayer Beads
Origin: India
Red Sandalwood takes a thousand years to mature and embodies the essence of the sun and moon, making it an excellent choice for balancing yin and yang. It is believed to ward off evil, ensure safety, and improve feng shui, making it suitable for Buddhist spiritual practices.
According to the "Compendium of Materia Medica," small leaf red sandalwood has calming effects, promotes blood circulation, and can enhance immunity, delay aging, and improve sleep when worn over time. The wood shavings release a substance called "wood oxygen" when rubbed, which is beneficial for calming the mind and promoting cell regeneration, aiding in skin care and wrinkle prevention.
The fragrance of sandalwood is beneficial for the heart, liver, and kidneys, helping to stabilize emotions and promote sleep. Long-term use of small leaf red sandalwood prayer beads can enhance their mystical effects.
The necklace consists of 108 beads, representing the 108 afflictions across the ten realms. The ten realms include the six realms of delusion: hell, hungry ghosts, animals, asuras, humans, and heavens, which are part of the cycle of samsara. The latter four realms are the worlds of enlightened beings: sound hearers, solitary realizers, bodhisattvas, and buddhas.
The 108 beads symbolize the pursuit of the 108 samadhis and the eradication of the 108 afflictions. These afflictions are often categorized by the six senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind), each experiencing pleasure, pain, and neutrality, adding up to eighteen types. Each sense can possess good, bad, or neutral qualities, totaling thirty-six types, which, when combined with the three times (past, present, future), results in 108 afflictions. Each bead represents a verse, and during meditation and prayer, practitioners gently slide each bead to maintain focus and meditative state. Additionally, the aromatic properties of small leaf red sandalwood help practitioners enter a meditative state more easily and relieve stress and anxiety.
