Canadian jade refers to green nephrite jade that is predominantly dark green in color, with uneven color distribution. It is semi-translucent or slightly translucent.
Around 1885, Chinese immigrants who were prospecting for gold in Canada discovered Canadian jade along the Fraser River. These fortunate and resourceful individuals brought the discovered Canadian jade back to China, and some of these Canadian jade stones made their way into the Forbidden City, becoming the favorite of Empress Dowager Cixi. Canadian jade is also believed to have properties of stabilizing emotions and warding off fear.
