Larimar, also known as Mermaid Stone, derived its name from its discoverer in the Dominican Republic, who combined his daughter's name, "Lari," with the Spanish word for "sea," "mar," to symbolize its incomparable blue color. This precious semi-precious stone, composed of blue pectolite with sodium and calcium, is extremely rare, and its only known source in the world is the Dominican Republic, where it is also the national stone. Legend has it that the Dominican Republic was part of the lost continent of Atlantis, which is why Larimar is sometimes referred to as the "Stone of Atlantis."
