石榴石名字與紅紅的水果「石榴」分不開，因石榴石晶體與石榴籽的形狀、顏色十分相似，故名"石榴石"。此石榴石擁有特別的烏牙紫色，非常獨特。

石榴石是一種非常適合女性佩戴的晶石，由於它是屬海底輪的能量石，更是有名的「氣血之石」。它能夠促進血液循環與荷爾蒙分泌，從而改善氣血虛弱狀態，並因此尤其適合體弱畏寒、氣血不足的女性，同時有助改善生殖系統功能。由於氣血提升，皮膚也會因此變得紅潤而光澤，故不少人也指佩戴石榴石可起到美容養顏的功效。
